Hi all,

These are assignments for my Senior Design Studio class. Eclectic Cafe is a really varied (and eclectic!) eatery in East Tucson. BeadHoliday may someday be the name of A Beaucoup Congé Bead Stores (it is currently their web pseudonym).

Once I finish the other components of each of these assignments (website, package design, and direct mail piece) I will post them :)

Café Italiano rebrand

Café Italiano is a local, family-owned gelato shop. Carla Pursel, owner, was a total gem to work with. This was an excellent project... I love all design work, but I especially love researching/incorporating vintage aesthetics and typography in my work. Fun, fun!

Horriblesweet sells dolls and such. Really amazing handmade custom creepy cute (hence, "Horriblesweet") dolls. Thank you, LostAtEMinor, for sharing.

Sharing inspiration.

Andy Mangold is a totally rad design student at MICA. I found his work on the Dieline today while doing research for a new assignment in package design (the project is a "juice cube" modeled after Target's new Wine Cube boxed wine). I am envious of Andy not only because he is a very talented and successful designer, but also because we are the exact same age!

How could I not have known about this??

The University of Reading (in the UK) offers an MA program in Typeface Design! I just requested a catalog. Amazing.

I was reading about House Industries (a supercool type foundry) and in the bio for one of their employees it mentions the graduate program at Reading. Awesome. You can view past student work here. (And it is amazing.)

New term, new fun!

Hi there! It's been a while. Last week was the first of the spring term at the Art Center, and although my schedule took a few extra days to organize, I am quite happy with the classes I'm in. My favorites so far: Time-based Art, Brand Identity, Package and Label Design, and Professional Practices (which is like a crash course on the ins and outs of the professional art world).

Tonight I started thumbs for my first package design assignment:
Client: Great Wall Kitchen (fictional)
Product: Mr. Chan's Szechuan Sauce
Specs: A label to be mounted to a 10.5 oz glass bottle

I've started trying to document my artistic process regularly. Here is the first day's progress of a new landscape digital painting assignment. So far, I've only blocked in the background. Eventually, there will be a large apple tree on the left in the foreground. As you may or may not already know, I have a bird theme/obsession in my work lately... Don't worry, they will make an appearance in this piece as well. Check back for progress!

Ah, finals week...

Because it is coming down to the wire at school this and next week, I am procrastinating by writing this blog post. I love internetting very much, but I must say it has a tendency to hinder the amount of work I get done. Especially when I am only starting my homework at 9:30+ at night, knowing I will be here, at the Art Center's 24/hr lab for at least five hours more. Alas, this is the way it is done.

Prioritization for the evening is as follows:

1 | Marketing: Plans Book design finalization
2 | Digital Painting: Create sketch and mass in forms for orchard painting
3 | Direct Response, Catalog: Gather and prepare all images, perhaps create grid and layout formula

4 | Ecology: Write outline for final paper and presentation, "The Sustainability of Graphic Design"

5 | Advanced Studio: Thesis packet rough draft

To make up for the blatant whining contained in this post, here is a harmonica digital painting I did.
